Important Information for Students

It is important that you read the information on the specifics of the copyediting plan and liability/ responsibility sections before selecting a plan and filling in the academic contact request form.

If you are interested in the additional service of checking the format of your bibliography and/ or citations, or a check to verify to all citations are listed in the bibliography, please verify on academic contact form.

It is important that you read the Liability/ Responsibility and Specifics on the Copyediting Plan before choosing a plan.

For any work on a thesis or dissertation I require a written letter from your supervisor stating the university allows you to use professional copy-editing/proofreading services. Some universities prohibit or have guidelines related to what an editor can do. A breach of such agreements can result in serious consequences for YOU.

Please send me any guidelines and the main supervisors’ permission BEFORE I begin to work on your project.

Your final grade is not within my control. I cannot be legally responsible for you receiving a lower mark than you expected based on the material I looked over.

If I, and you as the client, have blocked out a specific timeframe for your project and it is cancelled or delayed, I reserve the right to charge for the extra time. Likewise, if the project extends in scope, I have the right to charge for the extra service.

  1. Checking and correcting misspellings and punctuation using Track changes in MS Word.
  2. Ensure the grammar and syntax of the document, including any footnotes, endnotes, or appendices. This includes rewording parts of a sentence to clarify your English (British or American).
  3. Track change comments where your ideas are unclear. Comments provide information you can decide to act on. As the author, you are the expert on your subject. Comments may also suggest alternatives to incorrect word choices and redundancies.
  4. Ensures consistency of spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and other style aspects. I also ensure consistency of formatting, including chapter, section, and table and figure numbering. I will not create the formatting only correct what exists.
  5. If needed, I will suggest reorganization of sentence or paragraph structure for clarity.
  6. Highlight inconsistencies in subject to verb agreements, article usage, and prepositions.
  7. If your university/ college permits, correcting spelling error in references and highlighting inconsistencies in reference style (APA, Harvard, MLA, etc.), but I do not cross-check the details with external services, nor verify that all the correct information is there. I will not implement a referencing style if it has not already been done by you. Cross-referencing between text and end list is an optional cost that can be discussed.

It is important for you to include formulation requirements, word count specification, system of referencing, and any other information that may be helpful on the contact form.

Have you ever attended a conference, gotten excited to hear about a presentation only to find that the speaker did not take time to review his or her slide presentation? I have.

All too often the messenger and the message become scrambled because the PPT failed him or her. Grammatical errors, different typefaces, formatting inconsistencies, conflicting color choices, or any number of other elements can detract from the presenters message.

ReConsider will go through your presentation and make suggestions on how to improve it BEFORE you present it.

This service lies outside the three editing plans.  A quote will be provided on receipt of information provided on either contact form.

In addition to the editing service you choose, ReConsider will:

  • Proofread your cover letter.
  • Check formatting per journals’ specified style guide.
  • Suggest ways to reduce word count if document exceeds journal limit.
  • Provide a document highlighting the key comments and critiques of your document.

When you fill out the contact form, it is important for you to include the name of the journal you will submit your article to, its formatting requirements, word count, referencing format, and any other information that helps me provide the best result for you.

Storage of work/ privacy / data protection:

I will keep your files for as long as necessary. Files and documents will be deleting upon final payment.

All client work is saved on my computer and backed-up on an external drive. No work is passed on to a third party.

For Danish Tax System (SKAT) I need your name, address, and email for the invoice. If your organization/company is to pay, I need the address of their accounts department. This is the only ‘personal’ information I require. A copy of the invoice has to be kept for 5 years regarding Danish Tax legislation.
